With the change in the House Schedule to the legislative session in most of this week, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s has given a warning to the members of the possibility of voting through the weekend. The National Apprenticeship Act is the only specific bill expected to be considered though the House will be expected to consider legislation related to a Budget Resolution.
The legislation may be linked to the effort being put in to pass President Biden’s COVID relief measure. According to the Democrats in the Senate, they will employ the use of the reconciliation process to pass the Act, especially in the sense that they would not reach an agreement with the Republicans. With reconciliation, there will be the passage of a Budget Resolution being required first.
The Senate is also expected to take into consideration more of the President’s nominations to the Cabinet and other top positions. On Tuesday, a floor vote will be carried out to determine whether Pete Buttigieg will take over the role of the Secretary of Transportation. On the next day, the Senate Commerce Committee is expected to carry out voting on Gina Raimondo as the Secretary of Commerce. If voted in and approved, the nomination is expected to reach the Senate floor by this week. With the committee’s meeting looking to organize for the 117th Congress, Maria Cantwell (D-WA) will be appointed the chairperson and Roger Wicker (R-MS) the Ranking Member.
The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) is expected to carry out a hearing on Tuesday on the nomination of Kathleen Hicks to be appointed the Deputy Secretary of Defense (DepSecDef) on Tuesday. Kathleen, who worked under the Obama administration as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans and Forces and the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense, will become the first woman to be the DepSecDef if confirmed.
The COSPAR Scientific Assembly is expected to continue up to Thursday. The same day will also see a webinar sponsored by the Space Court Foundation on The Fate of the Outer Space Treaty: Finding Its Place in a New Era of Space Security. Secure World Foundation’s Daniel Porras will moderate the meeting, and the meeting will consist of a fascinating panel debate including officials and experts from Canada, Russia, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.
The National Space Society will be holding a Space Settlement 2021 Webinar on the same day and is expected to present the technology, individuals, and organizations that will steer the world to the final frontier’s settlement. Though the event is expected to have an influential list of speakers, there is very little posted on its website about its plan.https://nymarketreports.com/
